Alyx Arends is a Certified Hanna Somatic Educator. She is a graduate of the Novato Institute for Somatic Research in Novato, CA three-year Hanna Somatic Education program (2017-2021). She is a certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
She believes the more we move, the more life we have to live. However, pain, tension, and general dis-ease in the body can cause movement to become limited and painful, impacting the quality of our life. Chronic pain and tension are the result of a disconnect of the body and mind,
leading to a loss of somatic awareness. Somatic awareness is our ability to experience and sense our living body , the soma, from within.
She knows we are all equipped with the tools to heal our bodies. Our brain + body, working together as a soma, are the most powerful tools available to us to address our personal health. Many of us have lost our ability to be somatically aware due to stress, injury and trauma throughout our lifetime. We have forgotten how to use these powerful tools (brain + body), to sense, feel, learn, change and adapt. We begin to believe we have no control and must learn to live with the aches and pains as a result of aging. Thomas Hanna, the founder of Hanna Somatic Educations, says, "As we get older, our bodies and our lives should continue to improve right up until the very end".
By developing greater somatic awareness and improving the communication between our brain + body we can become better equipped to address our personal health and continue to improve as we age. Using the movement techniques of HSE, Alyx re-educates your soma in the process of sensing, feeling, listening, learning and moving. By working with your brain +body, we can restore your capacity for self-awareness, self-healing and self- regulation. The goal of our time together is to empower you to become your own practitioner. Together through Hanna Somatic Education and mindful movement we can create lasting changes in the way you move and feel so that you can live your life vibrantly, with freedom, joy and ease.
